EVAR

In the face of the difficulty and high risk of open aneurysm surgery, EVAR is an extremely practical way to disable an aneurysm with the closed method.

Endovascular open surgeries are procedures that require complete opening of the abdomen.  The larger the incision, the greater the burden and risk of the operation in all respects, for both the patient and the surgeon.  Thanks to the closed methods/non-surgical applications developed in cardiovascular surgery, difficult surgeries such as aneurysm treatment have been replaced by closed intravascular applications.

What is EVAR?

Evar can be summarized as the treatment of endovascular, that is, aortic aneurysms formed in the arteries in the abdominal region, with stent graft.

EVAR, which is applied within the scope of new approaches as an alternative to open aneurysm surgeries, is a closed aneurysm treatment while performing it in the part of the aorta corresponding to the abdomen.

How is EVAR Endovascular Stent Treatment Performed?

In endovascular stent graft application, the aneurysm is accessed through the vein with an incision made in the inguinal region.  The artificial vessel sent through the vein isolates the aneurysm, that is, the bubble, to the vessel wall.  Thus, the aneurysm becomes ineffective in the blood flow.

Stabilization of the artificial vessel should be followed after EVAR is administered.  After a while, the aneurysm sac, which is between the artificial vessel and the vessel wall, is texturally deformed and absorbed by the body.  During this period, it is important that there is no leakage and displacement in the artificial vessel.  Therefore, the patient is followed up after the treatment.

Advantages of Endovascular Stent Graft Treatment

  • The pain after EVAR, which is performed by entering through the groin without opening the abdominal region, is so mild that it cannot be compared with open surgery.
  • No incisions, no stitches, no scars.
  • The risk of infections and complications is low
  • The recovery period is considerably shorter, the patient gets up in a few days and adapts to his daily life in a short time.
  • Hospitalization is shortened.
  • The cost of closed method treatments such as EVAR is lower than open surgery.
