Liposuction
Liposuction is a surgical application that allows the removal of locally accumulated fat tissue from the body. Especially the fat in the hips, waist, and abdomen can cause an uncomfortable appearance for individuals. Regional fat deposition may occur due to unhealthy diet, hormonal disorders, and drug use. In addition, regional fat deposition may also be genetically based.
How is Liposuction Performed?
Liposuction is the process of vacuuming the excessive fat tissues with the help of long cannulas by opening 1-2 mm incisions in the area of excess fat. Local or general anesthesia can be applied in liposuction operations. Liposuction operations may be performed by;
- the wet technique (tumescent technique)
- ultrasonic (vaser) liposuction
- laser liposuction
What is Wet Technique (Tumesan Technique)
The wet technique is a technique frequently used in liposuction operations. In this technique, a liquid containing adrenaline and pain reliever is applied to the fat cells before the fat removal process. Thus, swelling of the fat cells is provided. After the fat cells swell, excess fat is vacuumed with the help of thin pipes from the incisions made on the skin.
What is Ultrasonic Liposuction?
In the Ultrasonic Liposuction technique, the area where the fat will be removed is reached through the incisions made on the skin. Ultrasonic vibrations are given to the area to soften the fat cells. With the help of small tubes, the softened fat cells are vacuumed.
What is Laser Liposuction?
In the laser liposuction technique, laser beams are sent to the fat cells to soften the fat cells. Then, with the help of cannulas through millimetric incisions on the skin, the area with excess fat is reached, and the excess fat is vacuumed. The cannulas used in this technique are thinner than the cannulas used in others. For this reason, there is less scarring after surgery.
Who May Apply for Liposuction?
Liposuction is applied to people who have an excess regional fat deposition. Liposuction is not performed for slimming purposes. For this reason, people with overweight need to lose weight first. After losing excess weight, the remaining fat in the body can be removed by liposuction. Specialist doctors determine the convenience of liposuction surgery for the patient by considering the person’s height, weight, and fat in her body. In addition, other diseases and health values of the people, if any, are checked. Liposuction is not applied to recover sagging skin. On the contrary, if liposuction is applied to a person with sagging skin, more sagging is observed in the skin. For this reason, it is important to be informed by a specialist physician in liposuction, as in other aesthetic applications.
What is the Post-Liposuction Process?
The length of stay in the hospital after liposuction may vary depending on the technique used. Since general anesthesia is preferred in operations performed with the laser liposuction method, the person must stay in the hospital for one night. If no complications are observed after the operation, patients can leave the hospital on the same day.
There may be a pain in the first 3 to 4 days after the liposuction operation, which is relieved with drugs given by the specialist physician. Heavy sports exercises should be avoided after the operation. In addition, a liposuction corset should be used for about three weeks.
Generally, patients can return to their daily lives one week after the operation. The full desired result of the operation is observed after about 6-9 months. Since liposuction ensures the removal of regional fat from the body, it is necessary to pay attention to the person’s nutrition and exercise regularly to avoid the recurrence of excessive regional fat after the operation.
