Arthroscopic Ankle Treatments
It is a tremendous advantage that arthroscopic ankle treatments provide the opportunity to perform closed surgery on a complex and heavily loaded joint such as the ankle.
It is a great chance to recover the ankle with a closed surgery, if no complication occurs, considering the complex, functional and load-carrying feature.
The arthroscopic surgery method, which enables us to perform highly successful surgeries in joint disorders, is also used safely in closed ankle surgeries, except for obligatory cases, preferred in place of open surgeries.
What is Ankle Arthroscopy?
Ankle arthroscopy, also known as closed ankle surgery, is a closed method/minimally-invasive-orthopedic-surgical procedure used to diagnose and treat trauma or joint disorders in the ankle.
In Which Situations Is Ankle Arthroscopy Used?
- Diagnosis and treatment of cartilage tissue deformations caused by calcification in the ankle
- Diagnosis and treatment of ankle sprain and soft tissue injuries after an injury that do not heal despite rest and physical therapy
- Trauma-related ankle injuries
- In the treatment of edema in the ankle for any reason
- In solving joint fluid-related problems
- In tendon compressions
- In connective tissue injuries
- In the treatment of joint rheumatism
- In the treatment of infection / inflamed joint caused by any reason
- In the cleaning of free bone and/or cartilage fragments in the joint
- In the removal of tumors
How Is Ankle Arthroscopy Performed?
Ankle arthroscopies are minimally invasive surgeries performed with small incisions under general or spinal anesthesia.
The optical camera sent through the small incision made in the ankle allows the tissue damage that caused the surgery to be visualized. Then, the tissue/tissues subject to the operation are repaired or renewed with one or two incisions, the necessary treatment is applied, the bone fragments that need to be removed, or the tumor are removed.
After Ankle Arthroscopy
It is usually comfortable after closed ankle surgery, the pain is mild, and the patient stands up the next day.
It may be necessary to receive support from physical therapy applications after ankle arthroscopy and continue the recovery period with drug therapy and rehabilitation. The treatment procedure and the post-operative recovery process may differ in each case depending on the problem.
