What is Headache?
Headache is a very common type of pain. Pain in a particular part of the head. Headaches, which can be seen in different types and severity, significantly affect the person’s quality of life.
What Causes Headache?
Headache can occur due to many reasons. If symptoms accompany the headache, these should be reported to the specialist in detail. Generally, a headache does not occur due to a severe illness, but it may require emergency intervention in some cases.
Headaches; Primary and functional headaches, and other secondary diseases symptoms are collected in two groups. Primary and functional headaches may be listed as follows;
- Tension-type headache
- Migraine
- Neuralgic headache
- Cluster headache
Headaches, which are symptoms of other secondary diseases, follow as;
- Dental diseases
- Ear infections
- Flu
- Sinusitis
- Vascular disorders
- Benign or malignant brain tumors
- Hypertension
- head injuries
How Is Headache Treated?
For the treatment of headaches, first of all, the type of headache and the underlying cause should be investigated. After the cause of the headache is determined, simple painkillers, muscle relaxants, or antidepressants, which the specialist physician will give, can relieve the pain.
Apart from this, many drugs and treatment methods are used for headaches caused by diseases such as migraine. In headaches due to other diseases, it is observed that the headaches decrease with the treatment of the disease. In addition, staying away from the factors that trigger headaches provides a severe reduction. Generally, insomnia, excessive caffeine consumption, hunger, and thirst are seen as triggers in headaches.
Depending on the type of headache, some elements will help relieve the pain. These are;
- Cold press on the head for migraine pain
- Massaging the neck for stress-induced tension-type headache
- Doing relaxation exercises such as yoga and meditation
- Placing a warm towel on the back of the head in a tension-type headache
- Tying hair less frequently in headaches caused by tightly tied the hair
- Buying over-the-counter pain relievers from the pharmacy
- Sitting in a dark environment if in a cluster headache presence
