Holmium Laser Enucleation of Prostate
Prostate diseases, which are common in men entering adulthood, cause many problems in daily life. Decreased kidney functions and irregular urinary excretion are common complaints. Enlargement of the prostate can be observed, especially after the forties. For this reason, problems such as inability to empty urine and the feeling of continuous urination are frequently experienced. The prevalence of prostate problems has necessitated the development of new treatment methods. At the beginning of these treatment methods are HoLEP surgeries.
What is HoLEP Treatment?
HoLEP treatment is an operation to open the obstructions in the prostate with laser surgical methods. Since the operation is performed with a closed method, the patient is expected to show a rapid recovery. The risks it creates are also much lower in this respect. Medication is recommended first in prostate diseases. In cases where there is no recovering, the HoLEP operation is performed as the safest and most effective method. It is the most popular prostate surgery method applied in the world for the last ten years.
How is HoLEP Surgery Performed?
In patients for whom a surgical operation decision is made, a physician’s examination is performed first. Then, routine tests performed before surgical interventions are applied. In particular, blood and urine tests are carefully examined. The physician may impose restrictions on the medications that the patient uses regularly.
The surgery is performed under general or local anesthesia. The adenoma is reached from the urinary canal of the patient. The adenoma is divided into small pieces and removed with the help of laser. The area is cleaned so that no adenoma tissue remains.
Who Can Have HoLEP Surgery?
HoLEP surgery can be performed to patients for whom drug use does not recover. This operation is much more advantageous in many respects. It is the safest method for those who use blood thinners for any other disease, those with cardiovascular disease and lung disease.
What Are the Risks of HoLEP Surgery?
HoLEP is safer and more successful than many prostate surgeries. However, like any surgical operation, some complications may occur. Since the penetration is made through the urinary canal, a burning sensation may occur during urination in the first few days. In some cases, bleeding occurs. The functions of the muscles holding the urine may weaken temporarily. The effect distance of the laser used in the operation is extremely low. For this reason, it is less likely to cross the prostate structure and damage the urinary tract. In the operation, situations that may harm sexual functionality are rarely encountered. Erectile dysfunction is a very low risk.
