Prolotherapy
Prolotherapy is a treatment method that has been used in the medical world for more than eighty years. It is used to treat ligament injuries, joint disorders and musculoskeletal disorders. Especially in the last twenty years, the positive results obtained from the treatment have made this application much more popular.
What is Prolotherapy?
Prolotherapy is the process of injecting non-harmful amounts of irritating solutions into painful and degenerated areas (ligaments, joints, joint spaces) to regenerate cells and tissues. This application is a non-surgical regeneration treatment.
What is Injected in Prolotherapy Treatment?
Irritating solutions are produced from dextrose, a type of glucose also found in the human body. Depending on the discomfort, these solutions may also contain substances such as glycerin, phenol, manganese, zinc, ozone, pumice, and polidocanol. If necessary, adipose tissue, bone marrow tissue and enriched plasma (PRP) can also be injected.
In Which Disorders Are Prolotherapy Applied?
The main ailments in which prolotherapy is applied are listed as follows;
- Chronic Patellar tendinopathy
- Osgood-Schlatter disease
- knee osteoarthritis
- ACL tear
- Ligament injuries of athletes
- Cartilage ailments
- Low back pain
- back pains
- hip pain
- Shoulder pain
- Elbow pain
- Spine Instability
- Whiplash injuries
- Plantar Fasciitis (heel spur)
- myofascial pain syndrome
How Does Prolotherapy Heal?
Prolotherapy treatment aims to heal the pain and imbalances in the musculoskeletal system of the patients through regeneration. Here, it is desired to stimulate the body to repair ligaments, joints, cartilage and muscles. The body needs regeneration for the inflamed area. Thus, healing begins in the damaged area.
Is Prolotherapy a Safe Treatment?
Studies have shown that prolotherapy is a harmless treatment method. It is a powerful alternative to surgical operations. It can be performed in clinics by injection. Thanks to this simple application, serious progress is made in joint, skeletal and spinal disorders. Many patients improve their quality of life without a surgical operation.
Is Prolotherapy and Cortisone Therapy the Same Application?
These two treatment methods are different from each other. Cortisone treatment does not relieve pain but does not allow it to be felt. For this reason, cortisone treatment loses its effect after a while. In some cases, masked pain causes much more serious discomfort. Prolotherapy, on the other hand, is not a concealment method. This treatment method aims to repair deformed areas. Recovery is targeted in the regeneration area. Prolotherapy provides an alternative to surgical operations. This is not the case with cortisone treatment.
