Varicose Veins Treatment
Varicose veins treatment, which is in the field of cardiovascular surgery, is evaluated in two main categories as non-surgical varicose treatments and surgical varicose treatments.
Although varicose may seem like a cosmetic problem because it is related to physical appearance, it is a cardiovascular health problem that occurs due to disruptions in the circulatory system and can cause pain.
The vascular health of patients with varicose veins who apply to the physician with complaints such as pain and feeling of heaviness in the legs due to aesthetic concerns or advanced varicose veins should be checked at first. After Doppler extraction, the type of treatment to be applied should be determined individually.
What is varicose veins, why does it occur?
The condition that the vascular structure in the legs being disrupted and appearence of evidents from the skin surface is called varicose veins. This deformation causes the veins to expand. Enlarged and deformed veins due to varicose veins appear as blue, purple, green colored clusters under the skin or as distinct enlargements in individual veins.
Why does varicose occur?
The medical answer to this question is venous insufficiency or blockages caused by clots in the veins. The following causes are conditions that trigger venous valve insufficiency or clotting:
- Genetic causes
- female hormone
- Pregnancy
- Birth control pills
- Hormonal treatments
- Overweight, obesity
- Occupational groups that are exposed to constant pressure and/or require standing for long periods, working conditions
- Childbirth / severe straining and constipation
- Tight clothing
- Aging
- Inactivity
How is Varicose Veins Treated?
Varicose veins can be treated with different approaches after diagnosis, depending on the type of varicose, where it is concentrated and the degree of the case:
Non-Surgical Varicose Treatment
Sclerotherapy and laser treatment of varicose veins are treatments with a more dominant aesthetic purpose, which are applied by injection and laser, are used to eliminate spider web varicose veins and slightly thicker reticular varicose vein
Surgical Varicose Treatments
Varicose vein surgeries are performed with the method chosen by the physician depending on the severity of the varicose, including intravascular surgical applications where classical surgery and new approaches are combined.
Stripping Varicose Surgery
Stripping is the name we use to describe the classic varicose vein surgery. Enlarged veins in the back of the knee and lower leg are removed by entering from the ankle or groin.
Stripping varicose veins surgery is performed under general anesthesia. After the operation, the patient is kept under observation overnight. The day after, the patient is discharged after getting up and walking around.
Laser Varicose Veins Treatment / Thermal Ablation
Thermal ablation with laser is an extremely safe and comfortable application that we use in many treatments in cardiovascular surgery.
In the intravascular thermal ablation technique, the catheter given to the varicose vein is burned by the laser light and thus the vein is closed.
Compared to the classical surgical method, this method requires a lighter healing process. It can be applied under local or general anesthesia. It is usually possible to leave the hospital on the same day.
